Cryolipolysis / Fat Freeze

Cryolipolysis is a non-invasive body contouring treatment used to reduce fat cell volume by freezing. The method involves controlled application of cooling within the temperature range of +5 to -11 °C for the non-invasive, localized reduction of fat deposits, intending to reshape the contours of the body. Patients usually enjoy the procedure as it is fairly painless and quick to perform.

Cryolipolysis FAQ’s

How long does it take to see results?

The effects of Cryolipolysis should start within a few weeks, but the full effect may take 3-4 months. Tests indicate that the changes are noticeable after 2-7 weeks (average 4).

What are some of the side effects?

Some common side effects  include:

  • Tugging sensation at the treatment site during the procedure
  • Pain, stinging, or aching at the treatment site- temporary
  • Temporary redness, swelling, bruising, and skin sensitivity at the treatment site.
  • Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia at the treatment site.
  • Some dulling of sensation at the treatment site – temporary
Who should avoid Cryolipolysis?

Cryolipolysis is a safe and effective treatment for reducing body fat in most people. However, there are some people who should not receive this treatment. People with the following conditions should not do cryolipolysis:

  • cryoglobulinemia
  • cold agglutinin disease
  • paroxysmal cold hemoglobulinuria
What areas are most commonly treated?

The  abdomen, the flanks, love handles, saddle bags, bra bulges, back fat, inner thighs, man-boobs or flabby knees are the most common treated areas, but it is important to remember that this is not a procedure for weight loss or for people who are obese. It works best for people who have isolated pockets of resistant fat. Those areas that you can see are struggling to respond to diet or exercise and simply need a different approach.

What to expect during the procedure?

The initial feeling when the applicators are applied is that the skin is being pulled intensely into a vacuum. The cooling process then begins which might sting or feel uncomfortable for the first 10 minutes. Thereafter the area feels cold and numb. Treating 1-2 areas typically takes an hour. When the applicators are removed, the treated fat feels cold and hard to the touch. The area will be quite red and raised and often looks like “a butter block”. A quick manual massage of the treated area  quickly reduces the hardened effect and stimulates the circulation in the area, spreading out the “butter block” so that the area returns back to its normal shape.

How many sessions should someone consider?

Depending on the size of the candidate you will need 1-3 sessions every 6-8 weeks.

A few days after the procedure, the cooled fat cells begin a process called “apoptosis”or shrinking. These damaged fat cells are slowly metabolized over several months by our bodies and removed through the liver. You will start seeing results after 4-12 weeks, with the results gradually improving from week 4 right up to week 12. The results will continue to improve for up to another 6 months after treatment.

What can be expected after this procedure?

Several days after the procedure, the cooled fat cells begin a process called “apoptosis” and begin to shrink. These damaged fat cells are slowly metabolized over several months by our bodies and removed through the liver. Cryolipolysis is highly effective and is producing consistent results for local areas of fat like the love-handles or ‘man-boobs’. With the Cryolipolysis you will start seeing results after 4-12 weeks.

Cryolipo Fat Freezing safe?

Studies have shown that the cooling only damages fat cells, and other tissues at the treatment site are not affected. The dead fat cells are discarded by the body’s normal metabolic processes. Because of its non invasive nature, fat freezing  has considerably fewer risks than other fat reduction procedures. It is considered safe for most patients, although there are certain risks associated with any kind of treatment. Some of these risks may include redness, bruising and reduced sensation in the treated area. These side effects are normal and usually go away on their own after the treatment.
